Heidelberg focuses on climate protection since the 90s. In 1992 and in 2004 the climate protection concept was carried out.
Heidelberg was able to reduce the energy consumption in municipal buildings by 50%.
The new city district Heidelberg-Bahnstadt is one of the world's largest passive house building areas. In combination with a biomass CHP plant it will be a zero emission district.
The City of Heidelberg works together with kindergardens, schools, sports-clubs, housing companies and enterprises to motivate them to save energy. Energy weeks, energy days, an energy caravan, exhibition and fairs have been organised.
The poster campaign “Climate is looking for protection in Heidelberg – also with you” started in 2007 and tried to persuade the Citizens to a stronger commitment for climate issues. More than 750 people participated in the photo-shooting and made a statement about their personal contribution to climate protection.
ENGAGE was inspired by the campaign in Heidelberg.
