Bistrita moving in the right direction with twin cities7 August 2012 | 10h29 | 210 visits On Saturday the 14th of July, Bistrita City Council organised a conference titled "Sustainable Energy in Europe" with their twin cities - Herzogenrath (Germany), Besançon (France), L’Aquila (Italy), Zielona Gora (Poland) to present the achievements and future plans of European public administrations in the field of sustainable energy. Bistrița City Hall presented the municipal strategy on sustainable energy for the period 2008-2020, based on the "Sustainable Energy Action Plan in Bistrita" developed within the Covenant of Mayors. Within this plan ENGAGE and Display were highlighted as two key activities by Mayor Ovidiu Teodor Cretu. At the end of the conference the representatives of each twin city rode bicycles Bistrița’s in historic centre as part of the the "Moving in the right direction" bicycle tour (see ENGAGE poster). The city mayors of: Bistrița, Herzogenrath and Wiehl, the vice mayor of Zielona Gora, local councillors from Besançon, L’Aquila, Wiehl and other members of foreign delegations were accompanied on the route by "Bistrița Scouts" (environmental NGO active in Bistrița), as well as by students attending the environmental education programme at the Information and Ecological Education Centre in Bistrita. The participants of the cycling tour were greeted with applause on their arrival, and children handed the representatives of each twin city an ENGAGE poster with the message "Moving in the right direction", in Romanian, German, French, Polish and Italian languages. The event ended with the achievement of the group photo commitment "Moving in the right direction".
