Heerlen is ENGAGEd!

	The City of Heerlen is the Center of the Parkstad Limburg Region in the south of the Netherlands. The town of Heerlen developed around the 12th century church of Pancratius. The ‘cultural spring’ of the city has been in full bloom for some years now. This can be seen from the programme of Theater Heerlen, one of the best and largest theatres in the Netherlands. ‘De Nor’ and SCHUNK* also contribute to the cultural diversity with their refreshing programme. Beside this 'cultural spring' a strong 'New Energy' economy is one of the strategic goals to raise proud and welfare after the closing of the coalmines. This combines perfectly with the climate protection goals to save 20% CO2 in 2020 as the city signed the Covenent of Mayors asoneoffew in the Netherlands. The City wants to achieve these goals by giving the good example to their inhabitants and stimulate, persuade andengage them to join. Inhabitants and entrepeneurs can become embassadors for the climate protection plan.
