Helsinki is the Capital City of Finland with roughly 580, 000 inhabitants. It is located in eastern Scandinavia at the beautiful shore of Baltic Sea. Helsinki has a long history in energy saving: already in the 1974´s the Energy Saving Board of Helsinki was formed. From this time on, a systematic approach to reduce GHG emission and enhance the energy efficiency has taken place in city organization. Helsinki has committed to reduce its CO2 emissions by 9% by year 2016 and moreover 20% by year 2020. By year 2030 the target is to reduce 39% CO2 in the whole metropolitan area. Helsinki City has run also different kind of participatory communication campaigns, to name but a few: SAVE, CYBER (Display® posters) and annual energy saving week (41). In year 2010 the climate information center was published to support the sustainable decisions and live style of citizen. |
