The ENGAGE initiative and the Covenant of Mayors Platform Sweden will be presented during this event. The Swedish Covenant of Mayors Platform is the national networking platform that gathers all public, private and associative key actors to discuss all issues related to the Covenant of Mayors. The platform was launched on the 1st of December 2011 in Stockholm. It aims to create and share a powerful vision and develop common priorities for action in terms of decentralised energy and territorial cohesion and network with local authorities and key actors who share the same goals. The City of Växjö signed the Covenant of Mayors in 2008. Since 2010, they have been using ENGAGE to commit civil society to local energy work. Almost 200 energy-related pledges from citizens and local stakeholders have already been collected and are displayed on the city website (picture). How does ENGAGE support Covenant of Mayors signatories? As the first Swedish city participating in the European campaign, Växjö will share their experience from this perspective. During the workshop, local authorities attending will also be invited to present their own practices and discuss chosen topics among: ideas for Local Energy Days, international networking and opportunities, transport and planning, local energy, energy in buildings. The Covenant of Mayors Platform Sweden is part of the NET-COM project - Networking The Covenant Of Mayors At The National Level - supported by Intelligent Energy Europe. It aims to empower local authorities (at both political and administrative levels) to implement successfully their current (or future) Covenant engagements. 12 national Covenant of Mayors Platforms have been created. This event is organised by the City of Växjö and Klimatkommunerna, the coordinator of the Covenant or Mayors Platform Sweden. Download the programme of the study visit. |
