The Energy-efficient Helsinki -day25 October 2011 | 11h10 | 275 visits The ENGAGE day in Helsinki, the first capital pioneer city, took place on the 13th of October during the national energy saving week. During the national energy saving week, ENGAGE posters were placed all over the city centre. Several ENGAGE promotions were organised throughout this week in Helsinki: in the Public Works Department, Social Services Department and in Catering Services Corporation of the City of Helsinki. 90 ENGAGEMENTS were gathered during this 7-day celebration, resulting in altogether 170 ENGAGEMENTS in Helsinki! Municipal employees could access an “energy quiz" about the ENGAGE campaign and Helsinki´s Covenant of Mayors targets on the City’s intranet. During the actual ENGAGE day on the 13th of October a panel discussion about sustainable living opportunities and possibilities in Helsinki was led by public servants. There was an interactive exhibition about the individuals purchasing choices where one can “shop” and estimate roughly the carbon foot print according to the habits and practices of everyday life. Everyone could collect blocks (with different sizes and colours) representing different areas of life: commuting, free time, purchases, and living. When finished, the blocks where calculated altogether and the visitor got a "receipt" with a rough estimation of his/her CO2 footprint. Panelists collected their own "shopping baskets" and results were discussed. The City also awarded the three best tips for energy saving in Helsinki sourced from the citizen feedback on the SEAP during summer 2011.
